The invention relates to a machine for cutting a thickness of flexible material exhibited particularly in the form of a stack of sheets resting on a bed. This machine comprises a carriage (1) carrying a cutting blade (2), a sole (foot) (3) suspended under the carriage and associated with lowering means (15, 16, 18) capable of bringing it into a low position in which it rests on the flexible material via a bearing face, and means (11) for returning the sole to a raised high position. According to the invention, the means (15, 16, 18) for lowering the sole (3) are set out so as to come into upper contact with the latter via at least three zones which are evenly distributed about the axis of the said sole, so as to move its bearing face orthogonally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the blade (2). <IMAGE>
