PURPOSE:To restrain the intergrannular corrosion of a lead-acid battery, and improve the durability thereof inexpensively by constituting a positive plate of an expanded sheet grid comprising monocrystal grains. CONSTITUTION:0.07wt% of lead, 0.5wt% of calcium, 0.01wt% of tin and aluminum hot melt 2 are poured into a melting furnace 1, and fed to a casting pot 4 via a chute 3. Then, a starting rod 9 is set beneath a casting mold 5, and cooling water is supplied from a spray 6 to the rod 9 for gradually lowering the temperature thereof. In this way, the hot melt 2 is solidified at the lower end of the mold 5, thereby forming a monocrystal grain ingot 8. Then, the ingot 8 is rolled and cut into pieces. Thereafter, the pieces of the rolled ingot 8 are subjected to an expansion process. Then, paste is applied thereto and aged, thereby forming a positive plate. A negative plate uses an expanded grid made according to a conventional method. As a result, the durability of a lead-acid battery can be improved inexpensively. |
