PURPOSE:To improve error correction performance for a variable length code part. CONSTITUTION:A DC/AC multiplexer 56 multiplexes Huffman codes (variable length code) due to a DC Huffman encoding circuit 50 and an AC Huffman encoding circuit 54, and an error correction code addition circuit 58 adds a comparatively strong error correction code. The DC/AC multiplexer 60 multiplexes fixed length codes due to the DC Huffman encoding circuit 50 and the AC Huffman encoding circuit 54, and the error correction code addition circuit 62 adds a comparatively weak error correction code. A Huffman code/ fixed length code packet multiplexer 64 multiplexes packets from the circuits 58, 62, and sends its output to a transmission line. |
