The invention relates to a method and to a device for stopping the drum of a washing machine in the unloading position. The device includes a bimetallic strip (10) with strengthening (11) with a pull rod (120) with a lower stop (121) and upper stop (122) located in a slit (21) of a bistable lever (20) for operating a stop finger (22) which is inserted into a notch (310) produced at the periphery of the pulley (300) for driving the drum. The bistable lever (20), in the stop position, actuates a microswitch (40). Poor presentation of the finger (22) with respect to the notch (310) is avoided via a toucher (123), extending the pull rod (120) and by a cam (32) which are both situated in a plane which is offset with respect to that including the notch (310).
