<p>PURPOSE:To simplify a life control of a recording medium for backup by recording the number of backup times of a magnetic tape on a master reference area provided at the leading end of magnetic tape and displaying the life of magnetic tape when the number of times comes up to a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:The master reference area A10 is provided at the leading end 32 of the magnetic tape 22 of recording medium which is used for the data backup of a host computer 11. Maintenance data showing the number of backup using times are recorded on this area A10, and when the number of recorded times comes up to the prescribed value, e.g. 10 times or the like, the life of tape 22 is displayed on a display device 13 by a control device 23 of recorder 21 through the host compute 11. Thus, the life of tape 22 is easily controlled, then the tape 22 is economically used until its life limit.</p> |
