PURPOSE:To prevent production of a specific pattern on a picture after conversion in the line density converter converting line density of a binary picture. CONSTITUTION:A picture segmentation section 11 segments an original picture block 12 with a size in response to a conversion magnification from an original picture memory 12. A correction section 17 corrects the density total sum 16 of the original picture block 13 calculated by a total sum calculation section 14 according to a density correction value 19. A conversion equipment density decision section 22 binarizes a correction density 21 and outputs the conversion picture element density 26. A conversion density error calculation section 28 outputs an error 32 between a value 30 resulting from weighting a conversion picture element density 26 according to the conversion magnification and the correction density 21. A density error distribution section 33 shares the density error 32 into an area in an error buffer 18 corresponding to the original picture block at the lower right of the original picture block 13. The distribution ratio is decided by a distribution ratio generating section 15 according to a random number. The value stored in an area of the error buffer 18 corresponding to the original picture block 13 is used for the density correction value 19. |
