Use of nucleoside derivs. e.g. 5'-deoxy:arabinosyl:cytosine - for promoting leukocyte proliferation in treatment of leukopenia

A pharmaceutical agent contg. as active ingredient, a nucleoside deriv. of formula (I) can be used to regenerate blood by promoting leukocyte proliferation. In (I), R1 is OH or NH3; R2 is H or alkyl; R3 is H, alkyl or COOH; R4 is H or opt. substd. desoxy-ribosyl or -arabinosyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) regenerate blood by promoting leukocyte proliferation and is esp. suitable for use after irradiation, massive chemotherapy and/or bone marrow transplants. Thus (I) can be used in the treatment of leukopaenia. (I) can be prepd. cheaply and has no side effects as it can be used in low doses.
