The system creates a partial vacuum in the tunnels for carrying warm air. The tunnels are constructed as straight tunnel sections between stations. The stations are provided with travelling platforms for transferring motor vehicles from one tunnel section to another. The stations have passenger conveyance shafts, supply shafts and low level garages. The tunnels are also provided with rescue shafts.
