The fluid washing action for exhaust gases, esp. for rubbish incinerators, has a container for the gas which is sealed against the ambient environment with a flow of low temp. fluid vols. The fluid is kept constantly on the move, through a stirrer. During agitation, the exhaust gas is kept to the condensation temps. and dewpoint of the heavy metals to be removed, and maintained until all the toxic matter has been sepd. from the strongly-moving fluid, which then has a content matter level which can be tolerated by the environment. The matter is taken up as an adsorbate, absorbate and/or in a finely dispersed microscopic form. The cleaned gas is taken from the fluid into the environment, while the fluid is passed through conventional separating and settling stages, and the cleaned fluid is returned for further use. ADVANTAGE - The method gives increased transfer contact between the soiled exhaust gas and the cleaning fluid, for an improved cleaning action
