The invention concerns a tool holder (6) which can be moved in two or three dimensions with respect to a two- or three-dimensional machining or tracing surface. Mounted on the tool holder is a device (14), designed to receive a tool, whose motion is superimposed on that of the tool holder and which is driven at higher accelerations than the tool holder. A device (30) coordinates the superimposed motion components so that the maximum resultant acceleration of the overall system is at least equal to the acceleration of the tool-holding device (14).
