The brake has at least one disc applied by an integral spring (63) and released by a solenoid (47, 50) with a controlled release action. This provides a variable braking effect with a parking brake when the system is switched off. The other brake circuits (I, II) are operated by direct solenoid force. For a multi-disc system the brake has several brake rings between which the brake discs are spread. The solenoid action of the normal brake systems operate directly on the respective discs while the sprung system (III) is held off by the solenoid force. When applied to all the wheels this brake system can operate as a retarder without undue overheating risks. ADVANTAGE - Compact, safe parking brake; fail-safe braking.
