The method is for recording time data when a video signal is recorded by the videophone system. The videophone system includes a gate array for storing video signal on a memory and for controlling data I/O from a CPU, a CPU for controlling input and output of video that through an interface unit, a picture synthesizer for displaying a picture on a display and a calender and time dividing unit for recording time data on a video tape. The method comprises: (A) recording time data prior to picture data recording, and (B) reproducing and decoding time data prior to picture data reproducing.
