In purifying liqs. contg. suspended and/or colloidally distributed and/or dissolved organic impurities and/or dissolved phosphate and/or heavy metals, a Ca aluminatesulphate is added to the liq. and the reaction prods. are sepd. from the liq. Ettringite or monosulphoaluminate is added to the liq., as an aq. suspension or an aq. slurry, and is mixed intensively for 10-120 mins. If the liq. contains sulphate (a) it is treated in a 1st stage with the Ca aluminate sulphate, followed by removal of the reaction prod., and (b) the liq. is treated in a 2nd stage with an aluminate or substance contg. an aluminate, and opt. with Ca(OH)2, followed by removal of the aluminatesulphate and its recycling to the 1st stage. The aluminatesulphate is used in a pre- and/or simultaneous and/or post-pptn. and/or flocculation filtration. USE/ADVANTAGE - Waste or raw water is treated to give water for drinking or consumption (claimed). The Ca aluminatesulphate was previously a useless waste prod.
