Materials with a crumb-like structure, e.g. soils, can be decontaminated by injection of lignin-decomposing micro-organisms and treatment within a closed system by O-contg. gases, pref. air, while temp. is controlled, e.g. at 32-38 deg. C. with 70 vol.% 02. ADVANTAGE - Uses micro-organisms which are easily cultured
