A pneumatic-shaped solid tyre (1) comprising a main body (4) comprising a radially inner annular base rubber layer (2) to engage on a wheel rim (R) and a radially outer annular rubber layer (3), the outside of which defines a tread surface, disposed radially outside the base rubber layer (2) characterised in that the base rubber layer (2) is made of a rubber composition in which no short cordlike or fibrelike reinforcing materials are included, the main body (4) is provided with a reinforcing layer (6) comprising at least one ply of organic fibre cords laid at an angle of 0 to 15 degrees with respect to the tyre circumferential direction, and the reinforcing layer (6) is spaced apart in the radial direction from the boundary between the base rubber layer and the outer rubber layer. Two radially spaced-apart reinforcing layers (6,7) may be provided. The invention provides a tyre with much improved rim grip properties.
