A support for culture medium for growing plants or plant cells, comprises a block composed of a mixt. of short fibres contg. (a) synthetic short fibres 25-150mm long and 0.5-100 denier thickness; (b) heat-adhesive short fibres whose surface is of a component with a m.pt. at least 20 deg.C lower than that of the (a) fibres. The proportion of (a) to (b) fibres is 90-60% (a) and 10-40% (b) by wt. The fibres are formed into a block 0.5-15cm thick and of density 0.005-0.1 g/cm3. The fibres may be polyester, polyamide, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, etc. |
