Motion in an input video image is classified (classes 14) according to whether motion occurs or not in two successive intraframe periods p, q. The colour and/or brightness of pixels within the displayed image is determined by the class of motion detected and may be used in surveillance systems to alert the viewer to motion or in machine/computer vision and guidance intelligence as used in robotics. The system uses a finite temporal-domain impulse-response filter (FT-DIR filter) for coding the motion. <IMAGE> |
