The invention relates to a screen for protecting a motor vehicle from solar rays, the screen being formed by a central part which is attached to the motor vehicle, and it being possible to increase the surface area from the central part. According to a first preferred embodiment, the screen is formed by a fixed plate which is attached to the roof and by elements which can move, substantially in the horizontal direction, between a first position, in which they are substantially covered by the plate, and a second position in which they extend substantially outside the fixed plate. According to another preferred embodiment, the screen is in the form of a parasol, the stem of which extends from the rear side of the motor vehicle towards the centre of the parasol. This prevents the motor vehicle from becoming excessively heated by large amounts of solar radiation.
