The appts. has a carrier (1,2) immersed in the medium. It has a number of spaced electrodes (5) along the measurement section each connected to a conductor (8) through a high-ohm measurement resistance (7), in parallel to each other. The conductor (8) is connected to one pole of an AC voltage supply through a current meter (10). The other pole is connected to the fluid medium through a low-ohm contact resistance. The carrier for the electrode is a pipe (1) built into the pit, with a profiled rail (2) at the brine level section, open outwards along the pipe (1). The electrodes (5) project from an insulator (4) fixed to the rail (2). The electrodes (5) are arranged radially to the longitudinal pipe (1) axis, shrouded by an insulated sleeve (6) as a leakage current barrier. The high-ohm resistances and the conductor (8) leading to the current meter and power supply are embedded in the insulator (4). The lower end of the conductor (8) is connected to the other pole of the voltage supply through a terminating resistance.
