The system contains a first memory region for map data common to a map region and a unit for entering information to define a map region. A second memory region contains map region specific data recording the relationship between the first input information and the associated map region. A map region locater finds the map region defined by the entered information and reproduces the map region on a screen. ADVANTAGE - Enables user to enter vehicles destination into map when user does not know exact location of destination by allowing entry of and deriving coordinates from post code.
