The system finds out the error position which is the root of the error position polynomial by decoding the error correction code of the Reed Solomon code effectively in the optical digital audio disc system. The system comprises calculators (100-132) calculating the error positions (δ(α)) with the Galois field (FG(2m)) elements, zero detectors (133-164) detecting the zero from outputs of the calculators and providing one bit data, and a selector (165) providing the corrected error positions (X1-2) by selecting the data with no zero from output data of the detectors.
