The water raising and energy generating machine has a chain of containers or buckets (40, 41, 56). The individual buckets in the endless chain (1) maintain the same orientation. The chain has long vertical ascending and descending sections, the ascending buckets being full of water and the descending buckets being empty. There are short horizontal sections, with the water draining out of the top section and the bottom section being filled up with water. The buckets at the top empty water into a reservoir (29) from which it passes through a descending pipe (30) to a turbine (31) and then fills the bottom buckets.
