PURPOSE:To effectively carry out tissue culture of a saffron pistil for obtaining a pigment which is an active ingredient in the edible and medicinal saffron by using a methyl salicylate-containing culture medium. CONSTITUTION:A culture medium prepared by adding 1-10000ppm (preferably 10-1000ppm) methyl salicylate to a culture medium such as Murashige-Skoog culture medium or White culture medium, as necessary, adding cytokinin, auxin (in respective amounts of 0.01-20ppm), etc., is used to carry out the tissue culture of the objective saffron pistil at 20-25 deg.C in a dark place. |
