PURPOSE:To provide a zinc oxide varistor having an excellent characteristic in a short time by a method wherein material powder, composed chiefly of zinc oxide powder and a varistor characteristic improver, is compounded and molded into the specified shape and then microwaves are cast on this compact for heating and sintering it. CONSTITUTION:In order to compound material mixed powder, the specified amount of a varistor characteristic improver is mixed in zinc oxide powder, a chief substance. Then, this mixed powder is molded into the specified shape. Nextly, microwaves are cast on this material compact for heating and sintering it and thereby fabricating a zinc oxide varistor body. When the varistor body is irradiated with microwaves, internal molecules vibrate and generate heat due to a phase difference between a potential and a current. Depending on the type of the material and microwaves, the heat generated varies to heat the specified substance only. By this method, zinc oxide varistor having an excellent characteristic can be manufactured in a short time. |
