The circuit for setting a scan timing in scanning to maintain a sync. state comprises horizontal and phase sync. locking detectors(21,22) for detecting locking states of the horizontal sync. and phase sync. signals, a horizontal sync. and phase sync. signals, a horizontal sync. and phase sync. locking detection unit (23) for discriminating if the horizontal sync. and phase sync. are locked simultaneously, a video pattern generator (25) for generating a video pattern in scan stop, a video pattern generator (26) for generating a video pattern in scanning, a first switch (24) for selecting one of the video patterns under controlling of a microprocessor (2), and a second switch (20) for selectively outputting the signal from a video signal processor (11) or the video pattern generator (25 or 26).
