NONLINEAR OPTICAL FIBER AND NONLINEAR OPTICAL DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide the nonlinear optical fiber having excellent light transmittability and maintenance of the linear polarization of incident light and an extremely high nonlinear optical effect and to provide the nonlinear optical device which operates at an extremely high speed of <=10ps. CONSTITUTION:This nonlinear optical fiber is formed by sealing an org. dispersion 61 which consists of org. matter having a nonlinear refractive index effect dispersed into an org. solvent or high-polymer material having excellent transparency and is finely controlled in the refractive index by adjusting the dispersion concn. of the compsn. or the dispersion into a hollow small-diameter tube 62 essentially consisting of glass. This optical device is constituted by using this nonlinear optical fiber. Then, the nonlinear optical fiber having the excellent light transmittability and maintenance of the linear polarization of the incident light and the extremely high nonlinear optical effect is obtd. The nonlinear optical device constituted by using such fiber can be operated at a high speed.
