The clamping device (1) has at least its main parts made of a an acid-resisting material which pref. is electrically non-conductive. It is a pair of tongs provided with a locking mechanism (11) for locking the tongs in the clamping position. The locking mechanism consists of a rack (12) attached to one tong lever (3b) and pointing towards the other lever (3a) provided with a catch (18) movable transversely relative to the rack (12). It is provided with appropriately shaped teeth (16). There is a clearance hole (14) in the tong lever (3a) for passage of the rack (12) which is bent as an arc of a circle having its centre at the fulcrum (6). The catch (13) is accommodated in a hole (17) intersecting with the hole (14). The catch can be ratchet device provided with a spring to hold it in position against the rack. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention can be used in Al plating installations. It can be operated easily and quickly (in contrast to exisiting screw clamps). It requires no special rinsing and restoring procedures (in contrast to Al clamps) and has a long life span.
