The magnetic tape video recorder has a cassette that provides tape that is drawn out to pass around a drum (16) carrying recording and playback heads. Control of tape tension is provided by a pair of rollers (7,8) on arms (5,6) pivot mounted on pinion gears. The gears mesh with worn gears on a common shaft with a single motor input. The tape passes around guide rollers and the tension is measured by potentiometers (37,40).
