A device for measuring a variable, for example the deceleration/acceleration of a motor vehicle, has at least one sensor and an amplifier of variable signal gain, the gain being varied in such a way that in a specific, particularly critical range of the variable an increased measurement sensitivity is obtained. For this purpose, gain is varied as a function of the variable to be measured. The gain may be a quadratic or logarithmic function of the value of the variable, so as to provide maximum sensitivity at low signal levels, and the device may be used to trigger a seatbelt tensioner or airbag. |
