A filter comprises a tubular housing made up of two similar portions 23, 24 bonded together at 30, 31 and enclosing a tubular filter element 36 compressed axially to make seals with edge 26 on housing portion 24 at one end and edge 46 on end cap 45 at the other end. Stepped, circumferentially spaced ribs 32 at the ends of each housing portion locate the element and end cap centrally, without any bonding being required. Thus the radially innermost edges of ribs 32 on portion 24 locate the exterior surface of filter element 36, while end cap 45 is centred by outer axial edges and urged axially by radial edges of ribs 32 of housing portion 23. <IMAGE> |
