PURPOSE:To obtain a photographic image having high sensitivity, high density and high gamma by imagewise exposing a photosensitive silver halide material having a halogenated emulsion layer on the support and by developing it with a soln. contg. a specified amount of chlorine ions in the presence of a developing agent. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive silver halide material having a halogenated emulsion layer on the support is imagewise exposed, and it is developed with a soln. contg. >=6X10<-2>mol/l chlorine ions in the presence of a developing agent. When the concn. of chlorine ions is <6X10<-2>mol/l, the effect is not well produced. When the concn. exceeds 7X10<-1>mol/l, chemicals dissolved in the soln. contg. chlorine ions are crystallized, and the crystals are liable to scratch the surface of the silver halide material during development, so >7X10<-1>mol/l concn. is undesirable. Sodium chloride, potassium chloride, ammonium chloride or the like is used as a chlorine ion feeding compound which can exist as chlorine ions in the processing soln. |
