PHI X174 TRANSGENIC MAMMALS

The present invention relates to a transgenic non-human mammal, such as a mouse, all of whose germ cells and somatic cells contain a stably integrated DNA viral shuttle vector PHI X174, which vector is introduced into said mammal, or an ancestor of said mammal, at an embryonic stage. The invention also relates to methods of detecting mutations at the DNA level in germinal and somatic cells of non-human mammals, where mutations are detected by specific reversions from a mutant to normal phenotype.
