MANUFACTURE OF THICK SMC SHEET

PURPOSE:To provide thick SMC sheet having improved singly overlapping accuracy in the width direction of the sheet by a method wherein no resin leakage from both side parts of the supporting film occur during the manufacturing of the SMC sheet. CONSTITUTION:Thermosetting resin pastes 18 and 20 are applied onto the opposing inner surfaces of an upper and a lower supporting films 15 and 16 in continuous form. Reinforcing fiber layer 24 is piled up between the upper and the lower supporting films 15 and 16. Before the impregnating process, water is applied or steam is sprayed to both the sides of the thermosetting resin pastes 18 and 20 so as to quickly thicken. In the impregnating process, reinforcing resin layer 24 is pinched between the upper and the lower supporting films 15 and 16 so as to be impregnated with thermosetting resin paste.
