PURPOSE:To prevent light from leaking from an area corresponding to a defective picture element and to improve the display quality by providing a light shield means in the area corresponding to the defective picture element. CONSTITUTION:Light is made incident on a picture element area 7, formed of electrodes 2 and 3 of the liquid crystal display device 5, as shown by an arrow A. In this case, the electric conductor of at least one of the electrodes 2a and 3a is broken, so a voltage can not be applied between the electrodes 2a and 3a and the electrodes 2a and 3a form the defective picture element area 7a corresponding to the defective picture element. In this defective picture element area 7a, only a display by light transmission can be made in the voltage unapplied state, so when the voltage is applied to peripheral electrodes 2 and 3, the picture element area 7 cuts off the light, but the defective picture element area 7a transmits the light, so a bright point is formed. For the purpose, the shield piece 6 cuts of the light incident on the defective picture element area 7a and the light is not made incident on the defectively picture element area 7a, so that the bright point is prevented from being formed. |
