PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active methylsuccinic acid having high purity from squalene by using a microbial strain belonging to genus Candida and capable of converting squalene into optically active methylsuccinic acid. CONSTITUTION:Squalene is converted into an optically active methylsuccinic acid of formula (* mark represents the asymmetric carbon atom) by using a microbial strain belonging to genus Candida and capable of converting squalene into an optically active methylsuccinic acid. The optical purity of the separated optically active methylsuccinic acid is usually 95%, preferably 98% and most preferably 100%. |
