A process is disclosed for controlling a preferably electro-hydraulically actuated infinitely variable transmission of a motor vehicle provided with an internal combustion engine. The transmission ratio is increased during braking, in particular when approaching curves. The observance of certain conditions therefor ensures a safe performance. The increase in the transmission allows the braking effect of the internal combustion engine to be better used, so that the service brake is discharged. Combined with a transmission ratio lock before, during and after curves, the vehicle provided with an infinitely variable transmission controlled according to the disclosed process can be accelerated with almost no delay when leaving a curve.
