A radio transmitter (21) controls all the receivers in the lights (10) simultaneously to switch the illuminations on and off. The electrochemical power supply (17) is formed as a chargeable or non-chargeable battery. Where the power supply is chargeable, a solar cell is provided for charging purposes. Each light (10) incorporates a light bulb or at least one LED (19). The transmitter and receiver can operate on VHF, medium wave or long wave, and as alternatives the transmission system can work with infrared radiation or ultrasound. A switch is provided, controllable from the receiver output, between the power supply and the light element (19). ADVANTAGE - Lights are switchable in any desired sequence and may be independently positioned.
