Element for soundproofing walls, including one or more plate-like noise-insulating elements (8) of high strength and density greater than 1 g/cm3 (1000 kg/m3) of elastomer or plastics granules or powder bonded with a binder under a pressure of at least 100 bar per cm2 (SIC). The element (8) pref. consists of at least 80 vol. per cent recycled elastomers or plastics. The element (8) is pref. covered on one or both sides with additional sound absorbing material (12), and is covered with a protective layer (10) of ageing-resistant bonded elastomer and/or plastics granulate. A soundproofing wall of such elements is also claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Soundproofing and absorbent structures, esp. alongside roads or rail tracks or industrial sites. Permits pre-fabricated modules for ease of erection and dismantling, without intermediate support. Light weight facilitates -handling esp. for temporary use. Cost-effective use of recycled polymeric materials. Choice of material type, particle size and shape, binder and compaction pressure gives simple and cost-effective process for multi-layer materials of varying absorptive properties.
