<p>A transmission for use in marine inboards in which the apparatus is coupled to an input shaft (16) having rotational energy and an output shaft (18) coupled to a propeller wherein the apparatus utilizes clutches (40, 60, 80) of the hyperboloidal type allowing for a forward rotational, backward rotational, and neutral states. Through engagement of the apparatus (10) in a forward rotational state the rotational direction of the input shaft (16) is transferred to the output shaft (18). Engagement of the apparatus (10) in a backward rotational state, the rotational direction of the input shaft is reversed within said apparatus providing a backward rotation of the output shaft (18). Engagement of the apparatus (10) in a neutral state allows for the rotation of the input shaft (16) without engagement of the output shaft (18).</p> |
