Industrial wastes contg. heavy metals, e.g. ashes or other residues, in powder form, are compacted to briquettes, and mixed with a material, partic. magnetic, which has a high absorptivity for microwaves. The briquettes are then sintered in a microwave bed and can then be incorporated in waste disposal. ADVANTAGE - No escape of heavy metals into the environment.
