An apparatus for testing the opening pressure of a relief valve (12) has a clamp (28) removably secured to the bonnet (18) of a relief valve (12). The clamp (28) has four upstanding bolts slidably held in T-shaped slots. The bolts mount the base plate (76) of a frame (30) which carries a lifting cylinder (32) and transducer (42). The cylinder (32) connects to the relief valve stem (22) and applies a lifting force thereto. The transducer (42) measures the amount of force needed to open the valve. The frame (30) is removable from the clamp (28) which provides access to the relief valve (12) adjustment nut. Adjustments in the relief valve (12) opening pressure can be made without requiring removal of the clamp (30). A calibration adaptor (14) fits on the frame (30) to allow testing of the transducer (42) in situ.
