The track jumping control responds to a track jumping pulse to move the optical read-out beam into alignment with the required data data track, with which it is maintained in alignment via a supplied brake pulse. The track regulating circuit is opened between the track jumping pulse being supplied and the initial track being released, with braking of the optical read-out device. A second braking pulse is supplied for braking the read-out device in alignment with the required track, its duration and/or amplitude dependant on the time required to reach this track. The track regulator is closed between the second braking pulse being supplied and the centre of the second data track being reached.
