A sample cell for a gas analyser has a cell body (1) for forming an optical measuring path (3), together with a gas inlet (7) and outlet (9) at opposite ends of the cell body. One or more porous aligning elements (4a,b) are provided for preventing non-uniform distribution of sample gas flowing from the inlet (7) to the outlet (9), the elements (4a,b) being arranged transversely to the gas flow direction. ADVANTAGE - The cell provides uniform sample gas throughflow, can react rapidly to sample gas changes and has a high response speed.
