PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 2,2- BISPHENYLHEXAFLUOROPROPANE

23221-4407 of the disclosure 2,2-Bisphenylhexafluoropropane is prepared by oxidation of 2,2-bis-(4-methylphenyl)-hexafluoropropane to 2,2-bis-(4-carboxyphenyl)-hexafluoropropane and decarboxylation of the 2,2bis(4-carboxyphenyl)-hexafluoropropane. The oxidation is preferably carried out with chromium trioxide, whereas the decarboxylation is carried out by heating the product of oxidation at temperatures above about 200.degree.C in the presence of an organic nitrogen hase of low volatility, preferably in the presence of a copper catalyst. The product of the process if mainly useful as an intermediate in the polymer synthesis.
