A method for cutting metal, in particular on the run, by means of a shear, which has one knife fixed and the other moving in relation to the first one in reciprocating manner, characterised in that the moving knife moves perpendicularly to the material being cut until the knife travels across the material to the other side thereof and once the cut is finished, the knife returns to its original position, cutting the next material length during that motion.
