GAS FLUSHED SKIN PACKAGING

A gas flushed skin packaging process combines the advantages of vacuum skin packaging and modified atmosphere packaging. The package produced by such process includes a lower member which supports the product being packaged and an upper web which is formed about the upper portions of the product. A treating gas is retained within the space between the lower member and the upper web. In a preferred embodiment, the upper web is a peelable barrier film such that removal of the barrier layer leaves a permeable top web which allows for the flow of gases out of and into the package. 2/901121.1/TXTLPG
