The housing of an exhaust-gas catalyst with catalytic ceramic bodies (1) supported inside it via expanded mats (2) is constructed from a carrier shell (3) and an insulating shell (9) surrounding the latter, enclosing between them an annular cavity (11). In those zones in which the ceramic bodies (1) are arranged, the insulating shell (9) is provided with ventilation openings (12), through which the flow (13) of relative wind enters the annular cavity (11) for the purpose of cooling the carrier shell (3) in the zones serving to support the ceramic bodies (1). In the remaining zones, the annular cavity (11) has an insulating function and prevents an undesired cooling of the exhaust gas.
