For operating at least one electric discharge lamp (1), such as a fluorescent lamp or a compact fluorescent lamp, arrangements (10-16) are provided to detect the presence of persons and to operate the electric discharge lamp (1), at least temporarily, with a reduced current in relation to its nominal current. For that purpose, there are preferably provided a presence detector (13) and a phase control (4) influenced thereby, and if necessary also an ambient light sensor (18). |
