To prepare a catalyst for the production of chlorofluorocarbons, magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide or magnesium carbonate is thoroughly mixed with a water-soluble iron salt and, if appropriate, a water-soluble copper salt and/or manganese salt in a molar ratio of the magnesium/iron/copper and/or manganese salt of 1 : (3@10<-><3> to 1.5):(0 to 2.6), the iron salt/(copper and/or manganese salt) molar ratio being 1:(0 to 210), in an aqueous medium at 5 to 95 DEG C until the reaction equilibrium has been established, the reaction mixture is dried, inert ingredients are added if desired, the mixture is comminuted and/or formed and, if appropriate, reacted with hydrogen fluoride. The catalyst obtained and a process for the catalytic fluorination of chloroform using the catalyst are also described.
|
