<p>A process is disclosed for controlling a preferably electro-hydraulically actuated infinitely variable transmission of a motor vehicle driven in particular by an internal combustion engine on the basis of several characteristic control curves selected depending on a driving activity that supplies an evaluation of the driving style of the driver or of his traffic-conditioned actions with a view to optimum control of the motor vehicle. The characteristic control curves cover at least step by step the range between a characteristic control curve that allows the motor vehicle to be operated with optimal consumption and a characteristic control curve that allows the motor vehicle to be operated with optimal performance.</p>
